Piaggio Avanti II Development & Background
The Piaggio Avanti was created by Piaggio Aero Industries in the 1980s. Their goal was to merge jet speed with turboprop efficiency, which resulted in a three-lifting surface configuration, (forward wing, main wing, and tailplane), which helped aerodynamic balance and performance.
In 2005, Piaggio released the Avantti II with modern avionics and upgraded systems. One of the main enhancements was the Rockwell & Collins Pro Line 21 suite, which helped pilots have a more capable digital cockpit for IFR and long-range operations.
The Piaggio Avanti II is equipped with two Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-66N engines which produce 850 SHP each, which allows the cruise speed to be over 400 knots, which is at times 50% greater than comparable turboprops. On top of an impressive cruise speed, the aircraft achieves fuel savings of up to 35% compared to light jets like the Cessna Citation CJ2 or Learjet 40.
Piaggio Avanti II Passenger Experience
- “The Avanti II felt like flying in a small jet — quiet, roomy, and incredibly smooth. We landed on a short runway, but it still cruised at 400 knots.”– FlyRoving Charter Passenger
- “From a pilot’s perspective, the Avanti II handles beautifully. Fast, efficient, and refined — truly the Ferrari of the sky. –Piaggio Avanti Captain
